Beormund Primary School

Attendance

Regular school attendance is vital for children’s learning, wellbeing, and success. Being in school every day helps pupils build strong routines, keep up with lessons, and develop positive friendships. Even short periods of absence can have an impact on progress.

We kindly ask families to support good attendance by ensuring pupils arrive on time each day and only miss school when absolutely necessary. If your child is unwell or there are challenges affecting attendance, please contact the school as early as possible so we can offer support.

Working together, we can help every child make the most of their time in school.

 Reporting Absence Due to Illness

If your child is unwell, you must report their absence by 9:00am via phone, text, or the school email. If we do not receive notification by 9:30am, a call will be made to your home. If no valid reason is provided, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.

Please remember to report your child’s absence on every day they are unable to attend school.

If your child becomes unwell during the school day, we will contact you to arrange for them to be collected. It is therefore essential that the school has up-to-date emergency contact details. Please inform the school office immediately of any changes to telephone numbers or emergency contacts.

If your child has been sick or had diarrhoea, they must remain at home for 48 hours after the last symptom to help prevent the spread of illness. (As per NHS Guidance)

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe and healthy.

Transitions - the Admission Process here at Beormund

Transitions are important moments in a child’s school journey, and we are committed to supporting pupils and families every step of the way. Whether your child is starting school or preparing for secondary school, we work closely with families and other settings to ensure a smooth and positive transition.

Miss Linda our Home School Liaison Officer, will support you through the admission process. You and your child will be invited for an initial meeting to complete the admission paperwork and have an informal chat over tea or coffee, giving us a chance to get to know you and your child. While the adults talk, your child will have a taster session in their prospective new class, usually for around one to two hours. As part of the admissions process it may require more than one taster session in more than one potential classroom. Identifying need and assigning the right class team is a fundamental part of the admissions process.

The next stage is that a meeting is arranged with your child’s previous school or setting(s) to complete a Baseline Risk Assessment. This allows us to understand behaviour patterns, possible triggers, then identify successful strategies and rescues so that we can provide the best possible support for your child whilst at school.

In response to this new information, your child will be invited in for a longer taster session(s)  to become more familiar with their new environment and a personalised transition plan might be agreed.

We provide support for children (and their parents or carers) who may find change more challenging. Our aim is to help every child feel safe, confident, settled and ready to learn.

Once all stages have been completed, your child will receive their official start date letter from the school and we can all feel enthused as you and your child begin their next phase of their educational journey whilst being a part of  Beormund Primary school.
